Traditional silver jewellery making. Casting and forging recycled silver, and casting using a Cuttlefish mould.
Bring along your old or broken silver jewellery to melt down, repurpose and turn onto something beautiful
Ever wondered what to do with broken jewellery, odd earrings, an old silver fork or spoon? Melting it down to make unique hand made pieces is easier than you may think.
At a time when reuse and recycle is on so many peoples minds, but access to the skills needed are not always easy to find, I am enjoying sharing my jewellery workshop with curious visitors or eager course participants.
There is something magical about taking silver from a solid, to a liquid, to something new and beautiful, be that casting and forging into simple rings and bangles or using the ancient technique of cuttlebone casting
My workshop is a beautiful homespun space, that is purpose built to take group classes. Come and join me to make a beautiful piece of handmade jewellery. No previous experience needed, just the desire to have a go, and learn by doing..

Choose between traditional jewellery making, forging recycled silver, or cuttlefish casting.
Traditional Jewellery making.
Make a pair of earrings, stacker rings, or pendant. You can use a mixture of metals, or just silver.
We will look at examples, and effects like hammering, lettering, and patterning, before deciding on a project for the day.
I will show you some jewellery making techniques, and help you to familiarise yourself with the tools needed before starting.
Forging recycled sterling silver.
Learn how to process scrap sterling silver, melt it down, cast into a bar, then forge into a simple bangle or ring.
Cuttlefish casting.
Cuttlefish casting is a ancient technique for making cast objects that goes back hundreds of years. You will carve a design into a cuttlebone, then together we will pour molten silver into your mould. I will then show you how to finish and polish your piece to make a stunning piece of jewellery.
How the day runs will largely depend on what you chose to make. For day courses we start at 10am and will run till you're finished (roughly 2-4pm depending on the size of your group)
For half days you can chose ether morning 10 till 1, or afternoon 1 till 4.

"I went to Cat's jewellery making day and made something I didn't think I was capable of. It's amazing. Cat gives great guidance and won't do the work for you so the end result is all your own. What a great day. A brilliant present for someone as well as it's in the most beautiful surroundings. Peaceful. Thanks very very much Cat"
